Former World of Warcraft designer Greg Street’s MMO Ghost is no more, as NetEase shuts down yet another studio

Unfortunately, here we are again with yet another game studio that looks set to close its doors for good. A couple of years ago, Greg Street, known for his work on World of Warcraft And League of Legendsinstall Fantastic Pixel Castle. There, as it was announced then, he would lead the development MMO under the code name Ghostwith NetEase acting as publisher. Except Post on LinkedIn Earlier today, Street announced that Fantastic Pixel Castle would close.

“Fantastic Pixel Castle will be closing its doors on November 17th,” Street wrote. “While we still have a chance of getting funding after this date, it will depend on how much of the team remains. While we'd love to make our game, our main priority is helping our developers find work, whether at indie studio Fantastic Pixel Castle 2.0 or many other good (and hopefully stable) gaming and tech companies.”

This latest closure, assuming no one swoops in to save the day with presumably several million dollars, is just the latest cut in a line of such solutions from NetEase. Publishing giant the year has begun firing a number of American developers working on Marvel Rivalsand in August they also closed T-Minus Zero Entertainment, a studio also founded two years ago by former BioWare developer and Star Wars: The Old Republic executive producer Rich Vogel, not to mention number of other studios face to face cuts or closing.

Little was known about the Phantom, and without a savior, things might have remained that way. This isn't the only unreleased MMO to be canceled in the past week. Amazon recently did the same with its Lord of the Rings MMO.. Fingers crossed for all the developers of Fantastic Pixel Castle.
