Washington Capitals The forward will miss an “extended period” with a lower-body injury in Friday's game against the New York Islanders, head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters Monday.
Dubois is still undergoing evaluation and it remains unclear whether he will require surgery, Carbery said.
The incident occurred during a faceoff near the end of the first period of Friday's 3-1 loss to the Islanders.
After throw-in In a match against Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Dubois fell to the ice and appeared to be in great pain and was unable to get up. His teammates helped him off the ice and he immediately returned to the team's locker room.
He ended up missing Saturday's game against the Buffalo Sabers.
Dubois, 27, has been slow this season and missed time earlier in the year with another lower-body injury. He hasn't scored a point in six games and is averaging just 15:32 per night.
The Sainte-Agathe-Des-Monts, Que., native scored 20 goals and 46 assists for a career-high 66 points last season.
Since being selected third overall in 2016, Dubois has scored 165 goals and 243 assists for 408 points in 604 games split between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings and Capitals.
