Rockstar have been accused of union busting after the firing of more than 30 staff members

Looks like things aren't that hot. Grand theft auto 6 Rockstar developer right now. Yesterday there was a report Bloomberg (paywall) that a number of staff had allegedly been sacked, and the UK gaming workers' union IWGB said it was an act of union-busting. Two-Two, Rockstar's parent company, denied the accusation.

According to the report, along with a message from gaming workers union IWGB's Bluesky account, more than 30 staff at both the UK and Canadian offices were “furloughed” on Thursday this week. Bloomberg notes that all of the employees were apparently members of a private Discord group chat dedicated to unions, with members of the group either belonging to the IWGB or currently trying to organize at Rockstar.

Rockstar not only made history in terms of profits, but also committed the most brazen act of union busting the gaming industry has ever seen.

Alex Marshall, President of the IWGB, issued this statement: “Rockstar has just committed one of the most egregious and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of the gaming industry. This blatant disregard for the law and the lives of the workers who make their billions is an insult to their fans and the global industry.”

Take-Two spokesman Alan Lewis says the firings were due to “gross misconduct” and no other reason” and that “we fully support Rockstar's ambitions and approach.”

Rockstar is no stranger to workplace controversy. including those related to crunchalthough rumors on this front have become quieter in recent years.

As you already know, the studio is currently working on GTA 6, which currently scheduled for release in 2026.
