Warning: spoilers for Robin Hood Episode 2 is ahead.
First two episodes Robin Hood went to MGM+ at the same time, we are already recovering from a shockingly brutal death.
Rob (Jack Patten) flees to Sherwood Forest after a confrontation with the Earl of Huntingdon (Steve Waddington), who is also responsible for the murder of Rob's father, and meets the head of the Sheriff of Nottingham's security (Sean Bean).
“These Ain't Cheap Tricks” – Why Robin Hood's Thrilling Episodes Are So Great
“They’re all designed to bring you back, but they’re designed in such a way that they’re an organic part of the narrative,” English tells me. “I mean, these aren't just cheap writing tricks.
“Every cliffhanger is designed to take Rob's character to the next level of what we know about Robin Hood. You know, that's the point. That's how he becomes a Criminal, that's how he gets the name. As you progress through the series, what really happens is the creation of a mythology. When we get to the last part of the season, we get a fully formed version of Robin Hood and really understand how he got there.”
And that's what English and his co-writer John Glenn did so well. Reimagining the origin story of Robin Hood, viewers see a fully realized young man with a lot of problems. He is dear, almost one of us. Everything that happens to him is imposed on him, not sought.
“For me, this is the second episode, my favorite,” English says, and given the unexpected level of violence, it’s easy to see why. Rob's reputation and safety are once again called into question, and the stakes are truly high.
What about Glenn? “Episode 6 is such an amazing cliffhanger. I love the ending of this episode.”
After seeing this, I know it's another solid choice (not that bad, to be honest). But you'll have to wait another four weeks for full details.
