It's not about the hardware Toronto Blue Jays were after, but this recognition was still deserved.
First baseman Ty France was among 20 Gold Glove winners for the 2025 MLB season, the league announced Sunday night.
The Gold Glove Award, first created in 1957, recognizes the best defensive player at each position in the league.
France, joining the Blue Jays at the trade deadline, earns his first career Gold Glove Award and becomes the second baseman to take home the award, joining Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (2022).
The 31-year-old led all first basemen with a plus-10. strikeouts above average in 2025, according to Baseball Savant, will help Toronto establish itself as one of the best defensive clubs in MLB, en route to its first American League pennant and World Series appearance since 1993.
To determine the winners of the nine standard positions, all 30 managers and up to six coaches from each team voted from among the players in their leagues, excluding their team's players. These votes account for 75 percent of the total votes, while the SABR defensive index accounts for the remaining 2,025 percent.
Meanwhile, for the useful position, in cooperation with SABR, a special protective formula is used, different from the traditional selection process.
The Chicago Cubs had six top MLB finalists this season, but the Blue Jays weren't far behind as they tallied six nominations between five players: Alejandro Kirk (C), France (1B), Guerrero Jr. (1B), Andres Jimenez (2B) and Ernie Clement (3B, U).
