Male part New York Marathon got in touch on Sunday.
Kenya's Benson Kipruto crossed the finish line a fraction of a second ahead of Alexander Mutiso in a photo finish.

Two runners separated from the pack and headed to mile 24 of the race. Mutiso, who is also from Kenya, turned on his engines in the last 50 meters of the race but fell short of catching Kipruto.
Kipruto finished in 2:08.09 to win the race. This was the first time he won the New York City Marathon.
Olympic bronze medalist Paris Games 2024 placed first at the 2024 Tokyo Marathon, 2022 Chicago Marathon and 2021 Boston Marathon. His time at this year's New York City Marathon is about six seconds off his personal best time of 2:02.16.

Elsewhere, Hellen Obiri set the women's course record. She finished in 2:19.51, winning the race for the second time. She pulled away from Sharon Lokedi in the final mile to take the top prize.

The runners covered a distance of 26.2 miles. all five boroughs of New Yorkstarting from Staten Island and ending in Manhattan's Central Park. This is the 49th year the race has taken place across the five boroughs.

The first iteration of the New York City Marathon had 55 finishers, and the 2024 edition will see 55,642 finishers cross the finish line.
