Supercell calls time on Squad Busters less than 18 months after launch

Supercell has announced that it will no longer be actively developing Squad Busters.

Squad Busters launched in May 2024 and will go offline in 2026, “no earlier than mid-year.”

In-app purchases have already been suspended, and players who made a purchase at any point in 2025 can apply to have their “value transfer” transferred to another Supercell game, such as Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, Hay Day or Boom Beach.

“At Supercell, we celebrate what we've learned from our failures, and Squad Busters provided an opportunity to apply some of those lessons, especially from previous games with long beta periods,” the company said. “We wanted to move faster, take bold risks and learn directly from global audiences rather than wait years for a limited release.

“We realized we were wrong. The game didn't live up to the high expectations that you, our players, and we at Supercell have for our games, and by early 2025 we were faced with a real crossroads: either accept that Squad Busters was never going to become the global phenomenon we'd dreamed of, or make a big creative pivot. We chose the latter.

“The introduction of Heroes was the boldest change to a game of this magnitude in Supercell's live-action history, an attempt to redefine what Squad Busters could be. But despite the team’s best efforts and your continued support, we have not been able to find a long-term solution to its underlying problems.”

One final update will be released in December, after which active development will end. The development team will “focus its energy on both new games and existing live games.”

Supercell is also giving players free packs as a “thank you for [their] time, passion and participation in this journey.”
