Sir Charles Kingsford Smithfirst pilot take a transpacific flight, disappeared November 8, 1935trying to break the speed record for flying from England to Australia.
This was two years ago Amelia Earhart has disappeared flying over the Pacific Ocean.
But Earhart, a native of Kansas, is much better known than Kingsford Smith, an Australian.
Director Damien Lay spent decades and made 18 trips to Myanmar (Burma) searching for the remains of Kingsford Smith, his co-pilot Tommy Pethybridge and their Lockheed Altair 8D Lady Southern Cross aircraft.
Now the author of Lay's book. “About Air and People” will be published on the 90th anniversary of their disappearance.
“Kingsford Smith was the most famous man in the world,” Lay said. “He was invited to the White House by Roosevelt. They gave him a huge ticker tape parade in New York.”
The hero's son, Charles Kingsford Smith Jnr, 92, said: “I have only a few fragments of memories of my father and would have greatly enjoyed his love and companionship growing up, but his disappearance shortly before my third birthday sadly ended that opportunity.”

“Some of our lunch customers ask if we even serve dinner,” Millington said. “And we’ll have to spank them.”
