Colin Jost and Michael Che break down presidential Halloween “in what's left of the White House”
Saturday Night Live's Weekend update ridiculed Donald Trumpnumerous renovations of the White House, as well as his inability to behave normally, even handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.
Co-host Colin Jost honed in on one of Trump's interactions with a costumed child on Friday in “what's left of the White House.” Trump, as in 2019, placed the candy on the child's head, and not in the bag they carry with them for this very reason.
“Just put the bag down!” – Yost said. “Why is he so strange? Even the children say: “This is wrong.” It's kind of the epitome of his entire presidency – simply breaking norms that no other president or person has ever thought about. As if anyone ever thought, “I should just put candy on the baby's head.”
Yost also criticized the President and First Lady for coming out to greet trick-or-treaters while “Thriller” by Michael Jackson played.
“Just the perfect soundtrack to lure the kids into the famous mansion,” he joked.
Co-host Michael Che then turned to Trump, proudly announcing the White House bathroom renovation. its demolition The east wing, which stood for 123 years.
Critics are calling the move “tone-deaf,” Che said. “But I’m glad the floor looks slippery.”
Yost also poked fun at parts of Trump's trip to Asia this week. Noting that the president was given a gold crown and beef patties with ketchup while in South Korea, Yost joked that the 79-year-old essentially just ate a Happy Meal with a toy. And as for Trump's rating of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “12” on a scale of one to ten, Yost said, “I think Trump just wanted to show China that we're still much worse at math.”
