SanDisk takes the “world's smallest” USB drive, gives it a USB-C connector and… that's it. In fact, the company says it's so small that this “removable” drive won't have to be removed.
SanDisk will officially release the drive next Tuesday, and a representative present at the Pepcom Holiday Spectacular 2025 did not reveal the name of the model. Earlier at CES 2018, the company introduced the world's smallest USB drive called Ultra Fit. At this show it came with a USB-A connector, but a prototype USB-C device was also shown.
Either way, the new USB drive is positioned perpendicular to the connector, unlike other USB drives of the past. It will come with SanDisk Memory Zone Backup Software.
On the other hand, the squat, almost flush-mounted form factor means SanDisk doesn't really think users will actually remove the removable drive. “It doesn't disrupt your daily lifestyle while you're traveling,” said a representative named Allison.

“It's a really nice drive that plugs in and stays plugged in and then lives with you so you never have to take it out,” Ellison said.
Most USB drives are large enough that this shouldn't happen. Leave the disc inserted and you risk it breaking off in your bag, backpack or purse. Apparently, SanDisk believes those days are over.
The USB-C connector means the new USB drive can be used in both laptops and smartphones, as both devices now share USB-C interfaces. However, USB 3.2 Gen 1 provides I/O speeds of only 5 Gbps, which is slower than the typical 10 Gbps interface on most laptops.
The new SanDisk drive will have capacities ranging from 64GB for $14.99 to 1 terabyte for $109.99 and will be available on Amazon on November 4th.
