The national parties are holding a special party meeting on Sunday morning after the party's Federal Council yesterday removed support for net zero from its federal platform.
Senators Matt Canavan and Ross Cadell, tasked with reviewing the party's energy and net-zero emissions policies, were expected to bring their review to the party floor for debate on Sunday morning.
There are expectations that the party may abandon its support for net zero following the federal council's proposal.
Party leader David Littleproud told the council on Saturday: “We believe in cutting emissions, but not at any cost.”

Sources told Guardian Australia the meeting was expected to last about two hours and a policy position was expected to be decided on Sunday.
The meeting also follows a debate between Liberal MPs and senators on Friday.
The Liberals told Guardian Australia after their own debate, which included 35 members, that there was a wide range of measures to cut emissions, with a focus on lowering energy prices.
Some Liberals said they expect their party process, led by shadow energy minister Dan Tehan, to decide on their energy policy by Christmas.
But there were doubts that the changed position of the Liberals could be further compromised by the national parties.
