Games Done Quick (GDQ), the wonderful speed running event that has raised millions for charity over the years, is back in a new form: Games Done Queer (also GDQ, but for gays). And the event's livestream has already raised more than $11,000 on day two, thanks to speedruns that break down Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze and see hot dogs cooked in record time.
You can see the full Games Done Queer schedule. Herewhich started on October 31 and will last until November 3. During the first round of the fundraising event, one streamer had already gone out of bounds in Diddy Kong Racing, to the point where they were essentially the barrel rolls through the voidand another put his skills to use in a horror cooking simulator kiosk to collect hot dogs and hamburgers as quickly as possible.
Still to come are speedruns of Hi-Fi Rush, Rift of the Necrodancer, Sonic Adventure, Deltarune, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Untitled Goose Game, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (I'm guessing this depends on how quickly you can skip through Fi's dialogue), and Halo: Combat Evolved. All this is live Twitch.
All proceeds from Games Done Queer will go to Lambda Legalan organization that fights for the legal rights of LGBTQ+ people in the United States, where things are currently not going well.
“It's been pretty tough lately, so we're coming together for a good cause, but also for fun. And I think those two go hand in hand and both halves of it are really important,” said event organizer Rae Bruschi. PC gamer. “There are entire areas of the United States that I don’t feel safe going to anymore,” although Bruschi also hopes this weekend can also be “a break from all the horror.”
The Super Mario Bros speedrunner is now just 11 frames away from an absolutely perfect run through the 40-year-old classic after breaking the world record for the third time this year.
