- Peripheral maker Backbone will team up with Death Stranding 2
- The collaboration between Backbone and Kojima Studios' parent company PlayStation is the first of its kind.
- The exclusive DS2 Backbone One will also be compatible with mobile games on iOS and Android.
Longtime readers are probably already familiar with peripheral manufacturer Backbone. The company makes a huge variety of controllers, often in wrap-around form that attach to the back of the phone (geddit?). Now the folks at Backbone are teaming up once again with Hideo Kojima's mind-blowing Death Stranding franchise.
Yes, the oft-mentioned king of all walking simulators recently released the second part. Death Stranding 2, as well-received if somewhat confusing as the first, inspired Kojima to collaborate with his eponymous studio. AR company Niantic for the upcoming mobile spin-off.
And while you might not necessarily need it if you're a big DS2 fan, you'll soon be able to show off your love with the new Backbone controller. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Backbone One features an exclusive design and its own collector's case (individually numbered for you collectors).
Stuck
Of course, this isn't just a demo, no matter what Backbone says. And you'll find that Backbone One is just as good at playing a variety of top releases on iPhone and Android as it is with PlayStation Remote Play for those who want to experience Death Stranding 2 on their portable device. It also supports Apple Arcade, GeForce Now and other services.
It's also the world's first limited edition Backbone controller officially licensed by PlayStation (though they've had compatible peripherals for the console before). And while those of you who aren't fans of Death Stranding 2 may laugh, as we noted in our review of Backbone OneAt its core, it's still a great piece of kit.
Meanwhile, while you can find Death Stranding on iOS, there are plenty of other great releases that offer similar entertainment to try. Check out our list best mobile games like Death Stranding for our top picks!
