Trey Yesavage's final start in a wild 2025 season that began with singles ball and ended with his second World Series game with the team. Toronto Blue Jaysends with a major masterpiece.
Yesavage, the 22-year-old who worked his way through the Blue Jays' minor league system to ultimately cement himself as a key contributor to this postseason run, pitched a seven-inning masterclass on the mound at Blue Jays Stadium. Dodger Stadium help Toronto defeat Los Angeles 6-1 in Game 5 of the World Series.
Thanks to Yesavage's efforts and a few more timely hits from the Blue Jays lineup, Toronto is back north needing one more win to win the World Series.

Yesavage struck out 12 Dodgers hitters and allowed just three hits and one earned run in a 104-pitch game that had 10 of those strikeouts in the first five innings of the contest.
The only person who did it in Major League Baseball story? Dodgers legend Sandy Koufax was right behind home plate watching Game 5 at Dodger Stadium.
In Game 1, Yesavage didn't have his ideal pitching splitter, forcing him to use his slider more than he's accustomed to. As a result, the Dodgers tweaked it, although the Blue Jays' own offensive attack led to a Game 1 win at home.
Yesavage had great command of the pitch this time, and the Dodgers couldn't figure it out like the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners had done before them this postseason. Additionally, the slider complemented his mid-90s fastball quite well, keeping hitters honest in the game.
BLUE JAYS WILL BE BACK AGAINST THE DOGGERS EVEN IN THE WORLD SERIES AFTER AN EXTRA MARATHON
And it also helped that Yesavage had some quick insurance on the scoreboard, as his opposite number, Blake Snell, allowed two solo home runs on the first three pitches of the game.
First, it was Davis Schneider who hit the first pitch he saw over the fence to immediately set the tone for Toronto. Then Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s postseason dream continued as he hit his eighth home run this past October to make it 2-0 for the road team in the decisive fifth game.
Late in the third inning, Yesavage's only blemish in the game was a 2-0 score in favor of Enrique Hernandez, who didn't flinch from a zone split. He turned and parked it as the baseball sailed over the left field fence and breathed new life into a Dodger Stadium crowd that had been lifeless since Guerrero's homer.

But it didn't last long as the Blue Jays responded in the next frame. Teoscar Hernandez overplayed Dalton Varsho's hit to right field, and it cost him as Varsho sprinted to third base. Ernie Clement hit a sacrifice fly to score him and regain the two-run lead.
As Yesavage continued to drive, the Blue Jays extended the lead needed to escape with the win in the top of the seventh when Addison Barger scored on one and three wild pitches while Beau Bichette singled at home Andres Jimenez to make the game 5-1. Isaiah Kiner-Falefa's single in the top of the eighth provided additional insurance as Clement was able to score.
When Yesavage's night ended, Blue Jays manager John Schneider went to Seranthony Dominguez and closer Jeff Hoffman to close the door on Game 5, and that's exactly what they did to give themselves two chances at making the franchise's first World Series since 1993.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers, last year's World Series winners, have their backs against the wall. They will need to win their next two games to retain their title and they will have the right man to do so.
