Toronto police made the announcement late Wednesday, nearly 14 months after another man, 35-year-old Sean Downes-Abbott of Toronto, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the Sept. 13, 2025, killing of 36-year-old Jesse Christian Halvorsen.

Also charged with second-degree murder is Michael Jones, of no permanent address, who police said was arrested Wednesday.

Police said the arrests stem from an incident that occurred on Sept. 12, 2024, when officers responded to a call in the area of ​​Lake Shore Boulevard and Islington Avenue around 6 a.m. after “an argument between a group of people in the street.”

They said one man was found with life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The second injured man fled the scene but was found by police the next day and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

At the time, the killing was Toronto's 60th homicide of 2024.
