Warning: Spoilers follow. Slow horses Season 5.
Claude Whelan was forced to resign from his position as First Duty Officer at the end of the final episode of the fifth season after a series of mishaps while dealing with several terrorist attacks, becoming the second boss to leave the role since Ingrid Tierney resigned at the end of the third season.
Claude's dramatic ending Slow horses Season five suggests that this may be the last time we see the incompetent bureaucrat, but if you've read Mick Herron's Marsh House series of novels, on which the series is based, then you know that the character returns again in the eighth book, Bad Actors.
But Apple TV The spy show isn't taken directly from the pages of the books, meaning there's no certainty that the scripts for Seasons 6 and 7 (both of which have been greenlit) will directly follow the stories of their respective books, especially since Will Smith will step down as writer and pass the torch to Gabi Chiappa in Season 6 and Ben Vanstone in Season 7.
Speaking to James Callis about Claude's future on the show, Battlestar Galactica And Castlevania The star said that “the jury is out.” “I know what happens in the books, but the TV shows are not necessarily the books,” he added.
While that doesn't give away too much, when asked about the upcoming seasons, Callis did support the idea, theorizing about how his character might react to the events of the final episode, which could serve as an explanation for any gaps we see between the character's next appearance.
“You can imagine that a completely different person will come out of this. I don't quite know if it will be a phoenix rising from the ashes, but there's definitely a lot of ashes,” Callis said.
Does this mean he may know more about whether Whelan will return? Slow horses Season 6 or future seasons further? Probably not, or at least not yet. Callis said the same thing when he confirmed, “Future Claude? I can’t talk about him because I don’t know.”
