Update on construction of the $200 million River Park Sports Complex at Harvard-Westlake.
The old golf clubhouse has been renovated and will be open to the public. The old putting green still stands in front of the house on Whitsett Avenue. A cafeteria is being built next to the main gym, as well as eight tennis courts and a 52-meter swimming pool for swimming and water polo. Security walls are being built to separate private and public areas.
There will be more than 150 CCTV cameras with artificial intelligence to help track problems. New oak and orange trees are being planted as part of a giant landscaping project. Water is already collected through a completed underground storm drainage and reuse system.
Basketball games are scheduled to take place in the new main gym in late 2026. Competitions in football, lacrosse, water polo, swimming and field hockey will also be held here. The school has committed to not holding football matches on site for now.
Next year, the school will need a temporary certificate of occupancy so coaches and others can set up the premises, and then a permanent certificate before students and others can enter the complex, known as River Park.
With two gyms, look for a school that will host future basketball tournaments. With two sports fields and a swimming pool, the site could be used for training of foreign teams in the summer of 2028 ahead of the Olympic Games. The amenities look impressive considering that construction is still a year away from completion.
