Dark and disturbing top-down horror game Darkwood is getting a sequel and, as it turns out, an unexpected new developer. Original creator Acid Wizard and publisher Hooded Horse have enlisted Pathologic developer Ice-Pick Lodge to work on the game.
However, Acid Wizard did not disappear completely. He remains the owner of the intellectual property and will oversee and advise on the game.
Darkwood 2, as the sequel will be called, will take the action from a dark and sinister forest to the scorched lands of a dying sea, expanding the playable area into deserts, swampy swamps and deeper waters where anything could be hiding. This dramatic biome change will bring with it new sights and new creatures to fear and encounter. This is another reason to strengthen your base and hold out until the morning breaks.
Darkwood looked like a deceptively easy and harmless game. His top-down presentation didn't necessarily scream “fear!” at you, but his skillful use of line of sight hid any unpleasant surprises, and his inky heart and ruthless nature soon made themselves known. The idea was to survive long enough to understand where you were and what was happening. This meant venturing further and further into a strange dream-like world, while avoiding the merciless dangers of the night.
Morality is a series with a similarly uncompromising nature, and Ice-Pick Lodge has been around long enough to have amassed a significant amount of experience. This is certainly an interesting couple.
Darkwood 2 is in development for PC and, apparently, PC Game Pass.
