Freddie Freeman hits game-winning home run in… 18th inning

Tyler Glasnow vs. Max Scherzer: It was a duel following Game 3 of the World Series tonight in California.

At the beginning of the game the referees were robbed Blue Jays show. It all started, as we wrote this evening, with the famous play with Bo Bichette on the tracks.

Then Teoscar Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani took advantage of the momentum to hit solo home runs…and the umpires got the Blue Jays' attention again.

Let's say Twitter was sad to see Freddie Freeman declared safe in a game like this.

But Toronto turned the tide. Freddie Freeman was pinned at the plate by Addison Barger's powerful throw at the plate minutes after the interception attempt.

Then the forward did his job. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. got on base and an error by Tommy Edman brought (second baseman) Bo Bichette to the plate. Alejandro Kirk then hit a three-run home run.

The Blue Jays added a fourth on Andres Jimenez's shot to make it 4-2. That's 10 points scored in the 2025 series.

Tyler Glasnow lost control early. He ended up pitching 4.2 innings. That's one more strikeout than Max Scherzer, who pitched 4.1 innings and didn't argue with his manager when he left the game.

Shohei Ohtani's double off Mason Fluharty added the third earned run to Scherzer's record as Kiké Hernandez was on base for the Blue Jays' starting pitcher.

Ohtani was then impossible to remove.

Fluharty (who was there to face the lefties) later hit Freddie Freeman, who was driving to Ohtani. The veteran hit his second run of the series to tie the game at 4-4… and that brought Louis Varland into the game.

In the sixth inning, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. imitated Addison Barger by showing his hand. What a great play to end the half.

The Blue Jays then held their breath when George Springer got hurt swinging. He couldn't even finish the game: Ty France entered the game as a pinch hitter.

This was not good news.

However, the Blue Jays regained the lead. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ran from first to home base (despite being tired from several interception attempts earlier) after a base hit by Bo Bichette.

Bichette gave way to Isaiah Kiner-Falefa for the rest of the game. #RunnerRunner

Shohei Ohtani then got both teams back on track with his second home run of the game. He also had two doubles to make it a complete game heading into Game 4.

What a great ballplayer.

In this superb game of baseball, Shohei Ohtani again walked on the pads (an intentional walk) but was ejected immediately thereafter in the ninth inning for an attempted interception.

The game went into the 10th inning when Davis Schneider walked to the plate and was removed 1,000 feet early. The third base coach didn't have a big game.

In a game where the scale came in handy to save our collective sleep (a little), both clubs missed a lot of substitutes. The defense outdid itself and it was an incredible game.

Clayton Kershaw did especially well in the 12th inning.

But it's time to end this. The Blue Jays, entering the 13th, used 22 of their 26 guys. And at the same time, the other three players in the club's starting lineup were obviously not involved.

The Dodgers came close in the 13th round, but… no. Intentional walks to Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts paid off.

Finally, in the 18th inning, Freddie Freeman decided he'd had enough. He hit a big home run (as he did in 2024 against Nestor Cortez Jr.) to end the game.

Final score: 6-5 Dodgers.

PMLB
  • The Blue Jays weren't happy with the decision against Bo Bichette.

  • It's really crazy to see him at the bus stop.

  • Great atmosphere at the Rogers Center.
