Jump Space’s first big update adds daft yet lovable deflect-o-parrying

Co-op spaceship accident simulator Jump into space just received first major update early access stage, bringing with it both functional capitalism and a surprisingly satisfying trio of melee weapons. The first features newly opened item shops in your home base, giving you the opportunity to stock up on weapons, repair kits, or artifact boosters before heading out on a mission. And having hit a few bots with the latter, I love how worthy they are of a precious weapon slot, even in a game previously designed entirely for gunplay.

In addition to massive impact damage, the newly added wrench, crowbar, and sci-fi Flame Blade sword can—if blocked well enough—deflect laser blasts back at the mechanoid jerk who fired them. Yes, Jump Space now has parrying, which I know is the 2025 equivalent of speaking out in an action game. wow this strategy game has deck building. But I still think these three sticks are good additions for two reasons: first, they add a needed extra dimension to Jump Space's simplistic shooting, and second, it's just an old laugh to pull off laser-jumping ninja nonsense with what appears to be a completely mundane pipe wrench.

Essentially: Oh, okay. Why is this very good? Yes, I like it.

The stores aren't that interesting, although I suppose being able to quickly restock on basic weapons can help avoid losing your upgraded arsenal on a bad run. Speaking of which, the patch notes also share some of Keepsake Games' thoughts on equipment longevity: In short, it doesn't look like they're adding the (apparently much-requested) ability to stash favorite weapons for safekeeping, although the plan is to make higher-tier loot spawns more common. “This will make good weapons so common that hugging your MK3 as hard as you can won’t be a top priority for players,” the post explains.

Currently, this update also adds several mission modifiers, potentially adding even more villain spaceships for dogfights or additional rescue opportunities, as well as a small Halloween event involving a pumpkin hunt. Your reward? Another pumpkin, especially one that can be worn on your head. It probably still protects you from the vacuum of space, unlike the ones at Tesco.

Jump Space still has a lot of jumping to do in Early Access. Nothing here fixes it biggest problem of mission repetition and environmentwhich will need to be resolved in order for it to have real legs. However, this patch seems like a good enough start.
