Encore loin de la «fiesta» chez les Blue Jays dans cette Série mondiale face aux Dodgers de Los Angeles

TORONTO | The World Series between the Blue Jays and Dodgers moves to Los Angeles with the score tied 1-1. It could have been worse for the Toronto team.

After winning Game 1, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and his teammates were targeted by Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the complete-game pitcher in the Dodgers' 5-1 victory Saturday night in Toronto.

In an exclusive interview provided Montreal Magazine On Friday night, after the first game of the grand final, the father of the Blue Jays star, former Expos player Vladimir Guerrero, like a great sage, reminded him that it was too early to celebrate.

“We are not at the party stage yet,” he warned. Toronto took the lead, but the only thing that matters now is that the players keep working. They play again on Saturday night and I will be there again to share this moment with my son. They need to keep winning… We'll see on Saturday, and then there are three games in Los Angeles.

The father was right in his suspicions.

In the Shadow of Shohei Ohtani

Guerrero Jr. was among the victims of Yamamoto, another Japanese phenom who remains in the shadow of the great Shohei Ohtani among the Dodgers. No. 27 Blue Jays finished the game with one hit in four at-bats. The Toronto club was limited to four shots to safety the entire game.

This is where the rest of the final 4 of 7 will likely play out: The Dodgers' powerful starting pitchers have what it takes to dominate the Blue Jays and lead the team to a second straight championship.

In Los Angeles, Tyler Glasnow and Ohtani will take the mound on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, and then Blake Snell will surely want to come back strong in Game 5 on Wednesday after his first loss of this World Series.

For the glory of God

Vladimir Guerrero, the father, finally gave a speech that often resonates with his son, who regularly thanks God during his interviews.

“There’s still a long way to go,” the former Expos player added. We will wait to see what God wants. And what God wants, I want too.”

Blue Jays fans still want their team to win what would be Toronto baseball's first since 1993. However, to achieve this, everyone on the Jays will have to play like gods.

  • Veteran Max Scherzer, 41, has been announced as the Blue Jays' starting pitcher for Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
