- NordVPN adds adult site blocking to its threat protection package
- DNS filtering blocks domains before downloading to your device.
- Blocking adult sites is now only available in the NordVPN Android and iOS apps.
NordVPN has just taken another step towards comprehensive security by adding an adult site blocker to its toolkit.
The blocker comes with NordVPNThreat Protection package that already blocks a large amount of malicious content. Now you can filter thousands of adult domains.
The new adult website blocking feature uses DNS-based filtering to make this possible, blocking websites from even loading in the first place.
We already rate NordVPN as best VPN service is available, and today's changes should make it easier to watch family-friendly content.
At the time of writing, NordVPN's new tool for blocking adult sites is available on iOS and Android VPN Apps only, no extra charge.
Blocker of adult sites at the DNS level
NordVPN Threat Protection the package already protects you from all types of threats. It blocks malicious websites, annoying ads and various trackers from entering your device.
The toolkit has now expanded to include DNS-based filtering for adult websites.
DNS based filtering is a security method that blocks unwanted websites before they load.
It works like this: When you enter a web address, your device asks a Domain Name System (DNS) server to resolve that address into a numeric IP address. With DNS filtering, NordVPN servers check a domain against a predefined list of flagged or restricted sites. If it appears in this list, the DNS request is immediately rejected, so the page never loads.
This approach protects users at the network level, meaning malicious content is automatically blocked. In the case of NordVPN, adult site blocking will be available for Android and iOS users.
NordVPN will use DNS filtering to completely prevent access to thousands of adult domains. You can activate it in the NordVPN mobile app.
Domininkas Virbickas, chief product officer at NordVPN, said: “Our new feature allows users to control their browsing experience, whether they are protecting children on shared devices or simply want to avoid accidentally accessing inappropriate content themselves.”
NordVPN has had a busy few months
Today's announcement marks yet another security update for NordVPN over the past few months.
In addition to blocking adult sites, the company said that launch new NordVPN app For last iteration Fire TV Stick from Amazon. These devices run Linux-based Vega OS, so they need a new native VPN app, and NordVPN is one of the first VPN providers to have one ready.
NordVPN is also expanding its Threat Protection Pro luxury recently. This is an advanced feature that the company launched in October 2024 to advance the DNS filtering aspect of threat protection.
Threat Protection Pro is an exclusive feature of NordVPN's desktop apps and plans. It works at the URL and JavaScript level to prevent tracking, fraud and malware.
In the summer, NordVPN introduced Anti-spam calls for Android users based in the USA. This feature alerts you to incoming spam calls before you answer them, adding an extra layer of protection.
More recently, Threat Protection Pro has also expanded with new hijacked session notification functionwhich prevents hackers from stealing your credentials, and crypto wallet verification tool.
All of these changes in just a few months are impressive and a good move on NordVPN's part. Unfortunately, new cybersecurity threats arise every day, so the more protections we have, the better our chances of staying safe online.
