On Sunday, Steven Van Zandt held a party at the Pony to support his music education nonprofit. TeachRock. Star event promised “special appearances from some of Stevie's students [of Soul] And E Street Band family” and it came with an unannounced appearance Bruce Springsteen.
Held at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the evening featured performances by Jesse Malin, Darlene Love, Gary USA Bonds, Mark Ribler, Anthony Almonte of Funky Mofo's, Curtis King Jr., Ozzy Melendez, Eddie Manion and Barry Danielian. It was also billed as a birthday celebration for Van Zandt and his wife Maureen.
In a clip from the evening, Van Zandt and Springsteen performed “I Don't Want to Go Home,” the Van Zandt-penned title track to Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes' first album, which Van Zandt produced and featured two Springsteen compositions.
That evening they also performed Born to Run“Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out”, supported by active singing from the audience.
Fans reported that they also performed Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's “Raise Your Hand” live.
By the way, on the same weekend Springsteen: Deliver Me Out of Nowhere opened with Jeremy Allen White's Springsteen performing unannounced shows at the Stone Pony (just like Springsteen actually did back in 1982) Springsteen played an unannounced concert again at the same venue in real life.
