Mixtape takes home Game of the Year at SXSW Sydney 2025 Games Showcase Awards

Adventure mixtape Beethoven and the Dinosaur won Game of the Year at the SXSW Sydney 2025: Games Showcase Awards.

Last weekend, six awards were handed out to local and international developers in conjunction with the SXSW Screen Awards.

Little Pink Cloud's cozy puzzle RPG Letters to Arralla won a Discovery Award, while Studio Pixel Punk won a WINGS Award for action-adventure RPG Abyss x Zero.

Los Angeles developer Nice Dream won the Best International Award for its sci-fi adventure Goodnight Universe, while Tasty Gold received the Best Student Game award from Abberrate Inc.

“This year's show showcased bold, brilliant and innovative games from around the world, showcasing the creativity and innovation shaping the future of gaming,” SXSW said.

“From new indie studios to global innovators, the Games Awards celebrate the very best in gaming.”

The awards were part of the SXSW Sydney 2025 games festival, which took place at the ICC Sydney Convention Center and included a curated display of game demos and performances.

In total, the games festival featured 120 games representing 37 countries and six Australian states and territories.

  • Best International Winner: Good night Universe (Pleasant dream)
  • Discovery Prize Winner: Letters to Arralla (Little Pink Clouds)
  • WINGS Award Winner: Abyss x Zero (Studio Pixel Punk)
  • Best student game: Abberrate Inc. (Tasty gold)
  • Nomination “Best Board Game”: Potions Society (Whispering Mystic)
