Company recalls 2 million pounds of barbecue pork jerky that may contain metal wire

South Dakota company recalls over 2.2 million pounds (998,000 kilograms) of Korean barbecue pulled pork is being sold at Costco and Sam's Club stores because the product may be contaminated with pieces of metal, federal health officials said Friday.

According to the USDA, LSI, Inc. of Alpena voluntarily discontinued the product after customers complained of finding hard metal in the jerky. Company officials said the metal came from a conveyor belt used in production. No confirmed injuries reported

The recall includes 14.5-ounce (410-gram) and 16-ounce (450-gram) plastic bags of jerky labeled “Korean BBQ Golden Island Fire Pulled Pork Recipe.” About four dozen lots of dried meat affected. Products have a shelf life of one year and expiration dates range from October 23, 2025 to September 23, 2026. Packages are marked with establishment number M279A within the USDA inspection mark.

People should not eat the recalled jerky and should throw it away or return it to stores for a refund.

Pollution stones, sticks, insects and other foreign objects are sometimes found in foods manufactured in the United States. Consumers who find foreign substances in food should notify manufacturers, food safety experts say.
