Sam Rivers — bassist for nu metal band Limp Bizkit — died on Saturday… and now we have more information about what happened.
A spokesperson for St. Johns County, Florida Fire and Rescue told TMZ they responded to a call of an “unresponsive person in cardiac arrest” on Saturday.
The final cause of death is still unclear, but a spokesperson for the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office told TMZ… “Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported death at this address.” An “assisted death” is a death in which the deceased was under medical care for a serious or life-threatening illness that is likely to result in death in a relatively short period of time—days or months, but not years.
Rivers temporarily left Limp Bizkit in 2015… it was later revealed that this was because he had developed liver disease due to excessive drinking. He underwent a liver transplant and returned to the group in 2018.
The group announced news of his passing Saturday night, calling it a “heartbeat.”
According to the band, Sam wasn't just a bass player, he “was pure magic. Pulse in every song, calm in chaos, soul in sound.”
Rivers was 48 years old.
