Bedbug infestation forced workers GoogleChelsea campus in New York to work from home while the building is cleaned.
Report from Wired claims that campus employees were informed via email that “credible evidence” of a possible bed bug infestation had been found in the building and were told to stay home so the area could be treated.
Exterminators were soon called in and the campus was apparently cleared and tidied up before the next work day.
Error
Letter received Wired and apparently sent to all employees in New York City, it is alleged that Google advised employees to file a report if they experience symptoms of bedbug bites or see signs of bedbug presence on site.
Anyone who found bed bugs in their home was also asked to contact a professional exterminator.
The publication also said its sources said the infection may have been caused by “several large stuffed animals” at Google's offices, although it could not confirm this.
Google is also conducting additional inspections at its other New York offices, including its Hudson Square campus, “out of an abundance of caution,” the email said.
This news comes shortly after Google confirmed that it would be reduce permission for employees to work remotelyrevealing new restrictions on work from anywhere (WFA) policies.
The changes will mean Google employees won't be able to work from another destination, such as while traveling, as easily as before – as they were allowed to work from their chosen destination for up to four weeks a year, giving them more time to take vacations or extend seasonal leave.
Workers will also not be allowed to use WFA benefits to work from home or nearby, the company said, as the “legal and financial implications of cross-border work” also made working from overseas inadmissible.
