The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth controller was developed in collaboration with retro hardware manufacturer Analogue. The controller, introduced last October with Analogue 3D, launched before the system. Analogue's redesigned N64 has been delayed three times and is currently scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The 8BitDo 64 Controller is a wireless Bluetooth gamepad equipped with all the buttons you'd expect from a device designed for N64 gaming, but transformed into a modern form factor reminiscent of 8BitDo Ultimate Controller Series.
The redesigned shape moves the joystick to the left side of the controller. This is a Hall effect joystick with a metal ring, so it should be as smooth and precise as other 8BitDo controllers with the same technology. Hall sensors eliminate the risk of rod drift, and the metal rings maintain their stability over time.
8BitDo recreated the surface of the N64 control knob by adding three round protrusions. Luckily, it has a rubberized lid instead of the hard plastic surface of the original. 8BitDo also included an octagonal joystick, which Nintendo implemented on the N64 controller to emulate an eight-way D-pad. The new controller's actual D-pad is also in a new location, but it's still in a recessed pocket.
The large A/B buttons and four C buttons follow the N64 layout and are the same size/shape. The “Go” buttons and triggers have been redesigned to meet modern expectations. The shoulder buttons are labeled R and L, just like on the N64 controller, and both top triggers are Z buttons. The Z button on the N64 was on the back of the middle prong. The dual triggers will be useful if you want to use the controller for games outside the N64 library.
The N64's large start button returns, joined by three buttons found on many 8BitDo Switch controllers: minus (select), 8BitDo (home), and turbo. Once a button is assigned a turbo function, pressing and holding it is registered as repeated presses.
You can completely remap controls and make other customizations using the 8BitDo Ultimate Software desktop or mobile app. It has two different input modes: S-input (switch) and D-input. Although there are built-in vibration motors, vibration is limited to Analogue 3D and Switch modes.
Amazon also has deals on Bluetooth controller 8BitDo Ultimate 2 and recently released 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad. The Pro 3 is available in four different colors, including two inspired by GameCube Vibrant Purple Color And orange consoles/controllers. Both controllers work on Nintendo Switch 1/2, PC, Apple, Android and SteamOS devices. If you don't need Nintendo console support, you can get 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller for only $47.54 (was $60).
What is analog 3D?

Analog 3D is the next FPGA console from the premium retro hardware manufacturer. Unfortunately, pre-orders for the $250 console sold out last October, so interested retro gamers will want to keep an eye out for potential restockings once the console launches in Q4 2025.
The console can play original N64 game cartridges with hardware-accurate emulation and 100% compatibility up to 4K resolution. The console has four controller ports for real three-pin Nintendo 64 controllers or third-party wired controllers. It does No However, a controller is included in the package, so you will need an 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth controller or one or two other controllers.
