FRISCO, Texas – Just Arrived Dallas Cowboys' best defensive record in 2025 season in victory over Washington commanders in week seven, owner and general manager Jerry Jones promised that reinforcements were on the way.
“We have a chance to develop into the team our fans deserve,” Jones said after the game.
It wasn't just Jones trying to stir things up. The Cowboys' electrifying linebacker DeMarvion tweeted T-21 on Monday, indicating that its 21-day training window, which gives teams three weeks to decide whether to activate a player or place him on season-ending injured reserve, has opened. This schedule suggests Overshown could return after Week 10 while the team is in Week 11 at the stadium Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football.
Overshown tore his ACL for the second time in his career on Thanksgiving Day last season. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed the window has opened for Overshaun, as has the third-round rookie cornerback. Shavon Revel Jr.. (knee) and starting center Cooper Beebe (ankle). Wide Receiver Jonathan Mingo (knee) will be activated from injured reserve this week. For the past few weeks, Beebe has been working in a rehab group in Dallas with Overshown and Revel.
“I can’t predict that they’ll all play, but again, we’re really excited to have those guys back. They worked so hard. Demo [Overshown] and background [Revel] and really all the guys worked so hard to get back that I'm really glad they got back there. But we will be smart, increase their power and see how they behave.”
Here's Overshown and Revel's outlook for this season, along with an update on defensive tackles. Kenny Clarkwho suffered an elbow injury on Sunday.
Overshown is recovering from his second serious knee injury after tearing his ACL in the 2023 preseason as a rookie. He is ahead of schedule in his rehab after saying during organized team activities that his target return date is Thanksgiving. Schottenheimer said he was impressed by Overshown's mental growth during his recovery.
“I wonder how long he's been around [defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus] — Flux and how it sits right before meetings. Since I was sitting in [defensive] In meetings, he sits right up front and wears sunglasses, and it's cool. I can't make it happen. I try,” Schottenheimer said.
“He intends. You can hear how he wants to answer all the questions when asked by the other guy. You see him sort of pronounce the answer. I think it's understanding that he knows the physical part will take care of itself, but mentally and understanding the system and the requirements: closed lefts, stone logs and all the different things we do. Checks have to be made against certain formations, man, he's all about that. So I think as you mature as a player you realize that's not the case. just movement skills and the ability to fight guys and knock them down. This is the mental side. It's a chess match and I think he's older and wiser. I think he really attacks the play.”
Clark suffered an elbow injury on a three-yard touchdown run by Commanders running back. Chris Rodriguez Jr.. There were 2:39 left in the third quarter. He was officially listed as questionable but returned with 11:13 left in the fourth round. Clark had five quarterback pressures Sunday, tying his 2025 season-high. His 23 pressures lead the Cowboys this year.
“I think he’ll be good,” Schottenheimer said of Clark. “He's tough as nails and I thought he did a really good job yesterday of impacting the quarterback from a pass rush standpoint. That push that he and Wasp [Odighizuwa] It was nice to see that I was in the middle.”
Even after Dallas' best defensive performance of the year against Washington, the Cowboys still rank last in the standings. NFL in pass defense, allowing 260.3 yards per game. Revel's return can only help Eberflus's maligned supporting character.
“You've just seen this over the last couple of weeks, working with [director of rehab] Briton [Brown] “You've seen the confidence and the change of direction in what he's doing, and now we're very comfortable opening his window and letting him go out and play football, which is what he loves to do,” Schottenheimer said. “Again, it's probably going to be mostly scout team stuff this week. Let him run and chase after CD, George and the rest of the guys, let's see how he does it. He'll make mistakes, but I'm pretty sure he's very, very good at football. … I'm proud of him.”
Dallas was eager to get their third-round pick on the field given their defensive attrition this season, especially at the Pro Bowl corner. Trevon Diggs having got a concussion. There's a lot of excitement surrounding the building when Revel finally dons the suit.
“Size [6-foot-1, 194 pounds] and athleticism jumped out of college film. I think, again, he has the traits that we love in corners: they have length, they have a competitive spirit and things like that,” Schottenheimer said. “I don't want to overdo it in my praise of Von because it will be a bit of a process. “I’m really excited for him to get out on the grass and run and chase after some pretty good receivers.”
