The Montreal Alouettes have signed Danny Maccioscia, the team's senior vice president of football operations and general manager, and head coach Jason Maas to a two-year contract extension. They are now signed until 2029 and 2028, respectively.
Maciocia was hired by the Alouettes in 2020 after nine years as head coach at the University of Montreal. Since then, the team has gone 49-35-1 under his leadership, winning the Gray Cup in 2023. The Alouettes have made the playoffs every year of Macciosia's tenure, including this season, finishing first or second in the East Division.
“I am grateful for the continued stability that Mr. Pierre Carl Peladeau (team owner) has brought to this organization. I am also grateful that he continues to trust Jason and me,” Maciocia said in a statement.
“I look forward to continuing to build a winning culture in the Alouettes organization along with Coach Maas. Jason and I have worked together for many years and I am thrilled that we will continue to do so. His leadership in the locker room has been critical to our success. He holds himself accountable, our players and our coaches every single day and he is a big reason why we have gotten to where we are.” success achieved with his arrival.”
Maciosia hired Maas as the team's head coach in 2023 after he was fired as the Saskatchewan Roughriders' offensive coordinator. The pair have more than two decades of history, dating back to their time together in Edmonton when Maciocia was on the team's coaching staff and Maas played quarterback.
Maas went 33-19-1 in Montreal, helping the team win the Gray Cup in 2023 and become coach of the year in 2024 after leading the Alouettes to first place in the East Division. The 49-year-old Beaver Dam, Wis. native has a 72-52-1 record as a CFL head coach dating back to his four-year stint with Edmonton from 2016-19.
“I can’t thank Mr. Péladeau enough for his continued belief in what we are building,” Maas said.
“The pursuit of excellence starts with the leaders of any organization, and our owner, Mr. Péladeau, is a great example of this. It has been a pleasure working with Danny again. We have a clear understanding of each other's expectations and this has played a large role in our success over the past few seasons. I am proud of the culture we have created together and look forward to continuing our work together for the foreseeable future.”
