Meta is finally adding a group chat feature to Threads, just over two years after the platform's debut.
The group chat feature, a popular feature on most social media platforms, allows users to message multiple users instead of sending individual messages. If any users in Threads want to create a group chat, they will have to go to the new messages tab, where they can then add up to 50 followers to the group chat. As expected, the new feature will also support the ability to name group chats to make it easier to identify who's in the conversation and what it's about (or, as usual, to come up with the craziest names).
Group chat support is currently rolling out worldwide, with the exception of the UK and Australia. Meta is currently working to have these features launched as soon as possible.
According to EdgeFuture updates will include improved inbox management tools and allow Threads users to invite others to group chats by sharing a link rather than adding them to the conversation individually.
Meta has been expanding streams over the past year, including DM deployment back in Juneand we are working on ability to add new channels by default such as For You, Subscriptions, or a custom channel similar to the one on X/Twitter.
