ARK RaidersThe open beta is slowly approaching completion. With less than two weeks left until the game's release, fans can't wait to experience it to its fullest. However, eagle-eyed players noticed something different in the game: the graphics were much worse than they were before.
According to an eagle-eyed player who shared their findings on ARK RaidersOfficial subreddit, it looks like the game's graphics have dropped significantly since the last technical test. While it previously had lush and realistic foliage and a strong atmospheric dimension, the current version of the game seems to lack both.
Comparison images show that during the second technical test ARK RaidersThe foliage has much more texture, depth and life to it, whereas it now looks more ragged and playful. Also, the previous version has a strong volumetric fog, which significantly improves the atmosphere of the swampy area, but the current version has practically no fog.
Downgrading the graphics version is nothing new in video games and happens all the time, but it turns out that Embark Studios didn't have much of a reason to do it considering how well the game runs and how much the developers spent on optimization in general.
And maybe it just wasn't intended. OssenJ, Embark Community Manager, commented on another post that ARK Raiders Looks like he's been demotedmainly regarding its shading and lighting. “The team will look into this, thank you for letting us know,” she wrote.
Visibility could also be a reason why the developers reduced foliage density and fog. ARK Raiders being a PVP shooter and all that. However, the poorly rendered, uneven and shimmery foliage tells me that this wasn't all about improving PVP, as it's an overall eyesore and takes a lot away from the experience.
Less realistic and sparser foliage, as well as almost complete removal of volumes, can and will improve fps on less capable machines such as consoles. ARK Raiders this is already a highly polished and highly optimized game, so it doesn't make much sense to see the developers sacrifice graphical fidelity and compromise the style they worked so hard to create just so they can squeeze out a few more frames per second on average.
Whether intentional or not, the fact remains: ARK RaidersThe current version isn't the prettiest and I certainly hope the developers officially address players' concerns as the game is in many ways one of the most promising games of the year.
