Angelina Jolie Just Put a Tattoo-Baring Twist on One of Fall’s Biggest Trends

When Jolie turned around, she revealed a surprise cutout at the back that perfectly frames the many large tattoos she has accumulated over the years. In fact, if you look closely, the top panel holding the dress up appears to be right above her “Know Your Rights” tattoo, which as reported the name of her favorite song by The Clash.

The dress itself is something between runway version and a ready-to-wear dress that currently retails for $1,773. While Alberta Ferretti creative director Lorenzo Serafini's runway design featured sparkly embellishments and more dramatic drapery, cape dress available for purchase does not imply an open back at all.

Obviously, this middle ground was ideal for Jolie, who recently emphasized the importance of her tattoos in an interview with the publication Behind the scenes. “There's something about acting where you're often expected to be the blank slate between characters,” she said, revealing that it was for this reason that she was warned against getting tattoos early in her career.

Apparently she ignored this advice. “It was one of the many things I've done in my life that was separate from film and on-camera work—it was me, not the character,” she said. “So I wasn’t just a blank slate, even literally.”
