Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was clearly not happy with his teammates' performance after their 4-3 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken on Saturday night.
“In overtime, you can't let someone beat you and get a clean break,” he explained after the game, referring to Joshua Makhura's extra-period goal. There's one minute left, if you want to stay on the ice in this situation, you'll have to work hard. It cost us a point.”
Despite a 3-2-1 record since the start of the regular season, Stolarz is clearly unhappy with his team's performance. And if this continues, the 31-year-old goaltender fears the Maple Leafs will give up a lot of points unnecessarily.
“How many more points are we going to miss this way? The potential is there. We have the talent, the character, the intensity. It's just a shame that we can't put it all together at the moment,” he lamented.
But that's not all: the Kraken players took great pleasure in harassing the goalkeeper in his semicircle, while his teammates defended him rather timidly. So Stolarz had to take matters into his own hands.
“Honestly, I'm not happy. Guys are going to jump on me, so I'm going to try to defend myself,” the former Florida Panthers added. It's not pleasant: I don't like 225-pound guys falling on me. Hopefully we learned our lesson this time.”
The Maple Leafs return to action on Tuesday when they face the New Jersey Devils.
