Brad Marchand he'll have to take some money from his rainy day reserves after Saturday night's fight.
Florida Panthers The forward was fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct after a fight with Buffalo Sabers defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, according to the NHL's Department of Player Safety. announced Sunday.
Things initially became tense between the two when Dahlin tested Marchand from behind midway through the second period, much to the 37-year-old's chagrin. The two met again moments later, causing Dahlin to fall to the ice before Marchand pounced on the Swedish defenseman to land several punches.
While it was not specified which part of the brawl the league issued a fine for, Marchand took the brawl one step further by rolling away with Dahlin's helmet after the referees intervened to stop the fight.
As he was walked to the penalty box (two minutes for interference and two for roughing), Marchand was seen holding onto the blue Sabers helmet.
He held it all the way to the trash can, where he tore the straps off the helmet before tossing it back onto the ice. Dahlin, who was not punished for the game, was seen shaking his head and making comments towards Marchand after the antics, but nothing more came of the incident.
