On the night of the massacre Marcello Hernandezrepertoire Saturday Night Live the player returned his Weekend update The character Movie Guy is a movie fan with a weak viewing history.
Initiated by co-host Colin Jost To talk about the spooky movie season, Hernandez was first asked about Blumhouse's Recent Box Office Success, Black phone 2.
“Oh yes, Black phone 2. Call, call! Hello? Sorry, you have the wrong number because I haven’t seen it yet,” he joked.
When Yost moved on to the most genre film of the year, Hernandez's personality again disappointed: “Oh, yeah, Weapon. It was a very big movie, Colin. Everyone saw Weapon. And I have to tell you: I was not one of those people.”
Continuing that line, Hernandez joked, “I love horror movies because they tell you in the title what’s going to happen. Scream – All Scream. Smile – everyone is smiling! AND Saw “Everyone saw it except me.” I didn't see Saw“
By calling a real scary movie a “Michael Myers movie,” Hernandez wasn't actually talking about the classic movie. Halloweenbut rather Shrekabout “every man's biggest fear. You're about to sleep with a beautiful woman and then you wake up and think, 'How drunk was I last night?'” You know what I'm talking about, Colin.
In a rapid fire segment, Jost asked if he had seen I know what you did last summer.
“OK, what did I do?” Hernandez responded.
What about This? “Uh, I didn't see What“, he said.
But the real kicker came when Yost asked if Movie Guy had seen the much-lauded sci-fi thriller starring Sigourney Weaver. Stranger. “No, Colin, I’m an American citizen,” he responded to laughter from the general audience.
Elsewhere on Weekend Update, newbie Tommy Brennan debuted, similar to (departed actor) Emil Oakim's stand-up performance on SNL last year. During his short stint, the self-deprecating Brennan joked about his Midwestern roots, being one of eight children and his recent adjustment to New York City.
And while Cold Open avoided political commentary, Jost and co-host Michael Che took a deep dive into this week's news, joking about the release of disgraced GOP Rep. George Santos, the debate between New York City mayoral candidates Andrew Cuomo and Zoran Mamdani, and President Donald Trump's recent musings about not going to heaven.
