Ghost of Yōtei is waiting to hear from you before deciding what, if any, DLC is needed

Sucker Punch is waiting to find out which parts Ghost of Yotei you want to know more before deciding on the direction of future DLC.

In an interview with Games informerco-director Jason Connell and lead writer Ian Miles talked about how game developers have a “rare opportunity” to “actually listen to millions of people about what resonated in the story and what maybe didn't resonate or where the holes were” and use that feedback to shape further story DLC and content… if there's some additional story needed, that is.

“I think we're at the point in the project where we just have to put it out there and see what resonates with people, what people like and how people feel and what they would like to know more about Atsu,” Connell said when asked about possible DLC.

“And I think for us this is the most important part of the project in terms of making decisions like this, because the same thing happens with [Ghost of] Tsushima. You can listen, you can say, “Oh, okay.” People seem to want to know a little more about this relationship or what happened to the father.” How do you develop this character?”

He continued: “And you get this rare opportunity to really listen to millions of people about what resonated in the story and what maybe didn't resonate or what the holes were. And I think that's the mode you want to be in. And this is a kind of gift.

“Of course we love Atsu and think he's a great character. And just like with Jin, if there's an opportunity to improve it or bring some new elements to life or clarity for the sake of storytelling, and it fits what's best for Sucker Punch, then we'll definitely take a close look at it.”

As for what it's like to receive criticism?

“To me, criticism is a gift,” Connell said. “Some people will like what you do, and some people might not like it. There is criticism that no one ever wants to hear. […] but that makes you a better creator, right? Because you think about the perspective of this or that player. Maybe it's normal that this person didn't like it because maybe it was for that type of player.”

Ghost of Yotei is a sequel to Sucker Punch. Ghost of TsushimaThe story takes place in northern Japan approximately 300 years later. We awarded it 3/5 stars, writing in Ghost of Yotei review from Eurogamer: “Sucker Punch's sequel offers more great swordplay and heartfelt storytelling, but it's better served as a linear action game free of bad side quests and a dated open world.”
