- Samsung can now stick with its usual S series naming scheme.
- We also heard that the S26 Edge might not launch.
- The phones may arrive later than usual, sometime in March.
It would seem that the development process of the Galaxy S26 is not going as smoothly as Samsung let's hope: earlier this week we heard about the Galaxy S26 Edge may have been canceledand now there are new rumors about launch delays and rebranding of the phones.
First of all, rebranding. Several previous leaks suggested that the base model of this series would be called Galaxy S26 Pro – perhaps to add appeal to the phone and match AppleiPhone series – but now it seems that this is no longer happening.
According to sources who spoke with SamMobileAfter all, the entry-level phone will simply be called the Samsung Galaxy S26. Samsung Galaxy S25. If the Edge variant is also abandoned, then we will get the usual Standard, Plus and Ultra models.
We did we have our doubts about how smart it would be for Samsung to give the base model of the phone the Pro moniker – albeit the base model in a relatively powerful flagship series – and now the phone won't be directly compared to iPhone 17 prowhich probably would have happened otherwise.
Longer wait
The second rumor has to do with the launch window. According to TechManiacs (by using GSMArena), all this fuss over the name and possible discontinuation of the Galaxy S26 Edge means that the devices won't see the light until March.
You'll have to go back a couple of years to Samsung Galaxy S23 to find the last time these S series phones weren't released in January – and even then they debuted at the very beginning of February.
Samsung won't be happy about the timeline being pushed back to 2026, but unless the phones are ready, there's not much that can be done. Unlike the Galaxy S25 lineup, at least some Galaxy S26 models are expected to arrive. with Exynos chipsets inside.
TechManiacs has some list of leaks, but it's likely that the release of the S26 phones will be delayed given rumors at the moment. Interestingly, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is scheduled to launch in January, so it may actually arrive earlier than other members of the series.
