Taylor Swift's twelfth studio album. The life of a dancerofficially sold four million equivalent album units, including album sales and streaming, in its first week in the United States.
It's the biggest opening week in modern music history, according to Luminate, an industry data and analytics company that began tracking sales in 1991.
Swift breaks Adele's record 25which sold 3.378 million copies in the first week of 2015 in the United States.
The life of a dancer was released on October 3. In its first week, net sales of the album totaled 3,479,500 copies.
She also became the solo artist with the most number one albums on the Billboard 200 (15). She was previously tied with Drake and Jay-Z with 14 each.
Swift currently trails the Beatles, who have 19 number one albums.

She's no stranger to breaking records, and when it comes to The life of a dancerthe making of history began immediately. On its first day of release, the album sold 2.7 million copies in traditional album sales, breaking her record for most first-week sales in a single day.
Her latest album is 2024. Department of Martyred Poetsgrossed 2.61 million equivalent album units in the United States in its first week.
Vinyl options move the needle
One of the reasons Swift has had so much success is that she released her record in several different versions.
These include several Target-specific publications—three CDs entitled It's scary, This is amazing And It's beautifulas well as an exclusive vinyl release, The crowd is your king.
There are also a number of other vinyl options: Collection “Tiny bubble in champagne”, Collection “Baby, this is show business”, Collection of shiny beetles and a standard LP and cassette in “sweat-vanilla-scented orange Portofino vinyl.”
According to Luminate, The life of a dancer broke the record for the most copies of a vinyl album sold in one week in the US: 1.2 million copies on the first day. The previous record holder was Department of Martyred Poetswhich sold 859,000 copies on vinyl in its first week.
Total Billboard Domination (Again)
Every song from The life of a dancer debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching the top 12 spots on the chart dated October 18.
Ophelia's fate it is her 13th No. 1 on the chart.
This is the third time in her career that Swift has reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. She is the only artist to ever do so, first achieving it with her 2022 album. Midnight, and soon repeated this with 2024 Department of Martyred Poets.
However, this is the first time that all of an album's songs have been ranked continuously from the top of the chart downwards.
New Disney+ projects will keep Swift at the top
The news of Swift's record sales came immediately after Good morning America announced Monday that she will have two new projects coming to Disney+. It's a six-part documentary series about her iconic Eras Tour called Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour: End of an Era.
The first two episodes of her docuseries will premiere on December 12.
And this should not be confused with the second one called Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour: Final Showconcert film now including Department of Martyred Poets chapter. The album was included in her three-hour performance following its release. It was filmed in Vancouver.
How is it different from the 2023 concert film? Taylor Swift: Eras Tourwhich was compiled from several performances at SoFi Stadium in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood and came out ahead Department of Martyred Poets.
