Well, folks, it's been a long time without a winter League of Legends map—specifically, the last time Summoner's Rift had holiday jokes was 2018—but it's finally coming back in 2025.
In a silly little video, League executive producer Paul Bellezza teases the big announcement while creating a snow angel. He points to the fact that it's been a long time since the last Snowdown event and attributes the long wait to technical issues, saying “our technology and tools need some work.”
He then goes on to say that the northern hemisphere of the planet is only in winter (technically autumn) while the southern hemisphere is still basking in the sun in summer. And finally he says, “Since you really asked for it, we'll do it anyway. The winter map is back, that's it.”
Details aren't entirely clear yet, but we do know that the holiday version of Summoner's Rift will be coming in update 25.23, which is scheduled to release on November 19th. In previous years, in addition to the winter map, there were all sorts of holiday skins, limited-time events, and seasonal rewards. You can see in the video above that the card will be decorated with the usual holiday paraphernalia. You know, lanterns, snowmen, wrapped gifts, candy canes, snow globes, three-headed monsters, the usual.
