PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Sir David Attenborough on Friday broke Dick Van Dyke's record as the oldest Daytime Emmy Award winner, taking home the trophy for daytime personality not every day as host of Netflix's “The Secret Life of Orangutans.”
Attenborough, who is 99, was not there. The Brit's career as a writer, presenter and storyteller spans eight decades.
Van Dyke was 98 years old when he guest starred on the daytime drama series Days of Our Lives in 2024. He is the oldest actor to win a Daytime Emmy Award.
“General Hospital”'s Jonathan Jackson and “The Young and the Restless” first-time nominee Susan Walters won supporting awards.
Jackson won the trophy for his role as Lucky Spencer, a role he originated in 1993 and has played on and off since.
The ABC show also won awards for Ellie Mills as a guest performer on a daytime drama and her writing team.
This was Mills' second career win playing Heather Webber. The 74-year-old, who won for the first time in 2023, is best known as the mom on The Wonder Years.
“We're living in really dark times right now. Everything is just crazy,” Mills told the audience at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. “We just need to keep our spirits up.”
Walters plays Diane Jenkins on the CBS series “Y.”&R”, in which she appeared during three different periods.
“I'm so glad I won and I can thank my husband of 40 years,” she said, making special mention of Linden Ashby, who appeared on the same show.
“The Young and the Restless” brought home a leading 19 nominations for the 52nd annual show. It's just one of three shows nominated for best daytime drama, along with “General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives.”
