Thin phones are struggling as both Apple and Samsung cut production of the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge.
As for Samsung, the Korean tech giant is reportedly ditching thin phones entirely and has canceled the Galaxy S26 Edge after S25 Edge failed.
According to a Korean news agency NewsPim And @Jukanlosreve on X/Twitter, the main reason for cancellation is that sales fall far short of expectations. Once the current stock of the S25 Edge sells out, that may be the end of the Edge lineup.
The report cited data from Hana Securities as saying that the S25 Edge sold only 190,000 units in the first month, but managed to sell 1.31 million units by August. During the same period, the Galaxy S25 sold 8.28 million units, and Galaxy S25 Ultra 12.18 million units sold.
How 9to5Google notes that the decision to completely abandon the S26 Edge came as a bit of a surprise, given that the device was supposed to be released in January, and its design had already leaked online. The phone is rumored to be 5.5mm thick, which is slightly thinner than the 5.8mm thick S25 Edge. iPhone Air 5.64 mm.
As for the iPhone Air, things are reportedly no better. According to McRumors, The tech giant plans to cut production of its ultra-thin phone amid weak own sales. Mizuno Securities, a Japanese investment banking and securities firm, estimates that Apple plans to reduce Air production by one million units while increasing production iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max by two million units.
According to the company, despite the decline in sales, the Air sold out in China within hours. McRumors.
