FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys will be without a defender Trevon Diggs on Sunday against Washington commanders following an accident at his home on Thursday, he was placed in concussion protocol.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer did not know the details of the incident, but Diggs was examined by team doctors on Friday.
“This is the NFL, if you're not sure what's going to happen, just wait because something is going to happen,” Schottenheimer said. “And you deal with it and don’t lose sleep over it. The most important thing is just concern for Trevon, that he's okay. But it seems that way.”
Diggs has started every game after spending training camp on the physically unable to perform list following January surgery on his left knee. He has been recovering from a right knee injury in recent weeks. He has 20 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 2 passes deflected.
Without Diggs, the Cowboys have Kayir Elam available to start opposite DaRon Blandbut they are expected to be activated Kahlan Carson (knee) from injured reserve to make his season debut.
Given the Cowboys' defensive struggles (last in yards per game and 31st in points per game), losing the decorated quarterback isn't a good thing. The Cowboys have talked about changes they'll make this week, including more personal coverage, which is Diggs' strength.
“That’s not going to change,” Schottenheimer said. “We always adapt when you go into game day, but that doesn’t change. This is a good plan. I like the plan.
