EDMONTON — The final report into allegations of corruption in Alberta government health-care contracts says it was widely known that two employees had a conflict of interest, but senior officials took no action.
Former Manitoba judge Raymond Wyant makes 18 recommendations to the Alberta government, including improving conflicts and procurement policies.
The investigation was based on allegations in a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by the former chief executive officer of the Alberta Health Authority.
Wyant says in the report that he found no evidence of wrongdoing by Prime Minister Danielle Smith, her ministers or other political staff.
But he says the limited powers given to him mean he cannot make any definitive statements.
It said that because its investigation was not public, those involved declined to be interviewed and avoided answering some questions.
Wyant said he believed many were trying to tell the truth, but he was under the impression that some were not providing “full information.”
There will be more.
