The latest lucky ones to find out they will be paid illegally during the GOP government shutdown are those who terrorize immigrants. Hey, Immigration, Customs and Border Protection agents, come on down!
HuffPost received an internal Department of Homeland Security memo showing that despite cutting off federal funding, the White House ordered the agency to pay salaries to ICE, Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection employees.
The note seems to have little detail such as “Where is this money coming from?” and “What is the legal basis for this?” However, DHS is guaranteeing them “full and timely payments” for the duration of the closure. In fact, to ensure that the most fascist federal employees did not miss a cent, they were promised money (and back pay) no later than October 22nd.
If you needed any better symbol of how only President Donald Trump's favorite employees get paid, the DHS employees required to write checks would be No According to one HuffPost source, they will be paid for their efforts until the quarantine ends.
Fine, May be they get paid. The administration is preparing a conspiracy way to ignore a law that requires furloughed federal workers to be paid after the shutdown ends. In other words, all those DHS payroll employees can get the privilege of working for free during the shutdown.
But who cares about them, right? American masked fascists from ICE and CBP will now join military forces, including Coast Guardin receiving payment during a stop.

Trump ordered Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should coordinate with the Office of Management and Budget to “use for pay and benefits purposes any funds appropriated by Congress that remain available for expenditures in FY 2026 to meet the planned payment of military salaries and benefits.”
Thus, the President directs the Secretary of Defense to use whatever funds he wishes to pay the soldiers, regardless of the fact that Congress might have appropriated those funds for other purposes—and, of course, regardless of the fact that the government has shut down and the funding has expired.
The New York Times headline writers are completely untrue. reporting it as Trump is “expanding his authority” to spend federal money without Congressional input.
It's not a thing. The president does not have such powers. He has nothing to expand. It's just pure lawlessness when Trump single-handedly decides where all the tax dollars are spent. This is from the same play as his idea of takes the revenues he received from single-handedly imposing illegal tariffs and illegally redistributes them to the farmers who are being harmed…by his illegal tariffs. We must force them to vote Republican!
The same impulse is behind DHS. demanding that airports are playing a short propaganda video of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem attacking Democrats for shutting down the Republican Party.
The administration wants to pin the pain of the shutdown on Democrats while saving their favorite groups from any pain at all.
Another new and ominous development is that Trump claiming A “very rich” man offered to foot the bill and pay the troops during the work stoppage.
Perhaps worse than Trump's decree, he can ignore congressional appropriations and funding cutoffs and use the money as he sees fit. Linking military pay to the supposed generosity of some unnamed donor is end-of-empire bullshit. The military shouldn't be subject to the whims of a random billionaire – but that's what Trump is now debating, even if he says it won't happen.
These are all steps to consolidate the loyalty of the military and other groups favored by Trump. He, Trump, is the one who stood up for them, who made sure they got paid while the Democrats kept the government closed. He, Trump, kept money in their pockets, food on their tables, and a roof over their families' heads while Democrats kept the government closed.
