In the last decade, Charles Leno Jr. has focused his attention on NFL. As he moves on to the next chapter of his life, the offensive lineman turns his attention to his loved ones.
The former Washington Commanders offensive lineman referenced wife Jennifer Leno's miscarriage in his resignation letter Tuesday. Tuesday also marked two years since the Leno family lost their daughter Paytynn.
“On October 14, 2023, my wife Jennifer and I experienced the most unimaginable grief. We have lost our precious daughter Paytinn – our fourth baby girl,” the 34-year-old wrote in his post. The statement was published on Instagram.

“That day changed everything for me. He changed the way I see life, the way I behave, and most importantly, he changed the things that matter most to me.”

Leno added that he realized his heart could no longer fully commit to the game he once loved.
“Then I knew I was done with football,” he continued. “Not physically, but mentally and emotionally. My priority, my passion, my purpose changed. Now my heart completely belongs to my family. And I knew that one day, when the time came, I would make it official.”

The retiring NFL offensive lineman called being a father “the greatest role of my life.” Leno shares three daughters with his wife.
“Your laughter, your love and your strength have given me a purpose far beyond football,” Leno wrote in a message to his daughters. “I want to be there for every moment, every milestone and every memory that is yet to come.”

Leno also thanked his wife in his statement, calling her his “rock.”

Chicago Bears drafted Leno in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent seven seasons with the Bears before joining Washington.
