Trump’s revenge tour could screw over New Jersey Republicans

Thirst for President Donald Trump punish Democrats are over it shutting down one's own party government has the unintended consequence of hurting his party in the critical gubernatorial race.

Trump said on Wednesday that because of the quarantine he cancellation the billion-dollar Hudson River tunnel project known as “The Gateway” critical infrastructure project which adds an additional rail tunnel between New York and New Jersey to help reduce delays affecting passengers on both the New Jersey Commuter Rail and Amtrak's Northeast Corridor.

This in addition to cancellation clean energy projects in several states, the end of funding for the 2nd Avenue subway line extension in Manhattan, and a construction freeze Red Line extension and Red and Purple modernization project in Chicago, all in Democratic areas.

“The New York project is billions and billions of dollars that Schumer has worked 20 years to get,” Trump said Wednesday's issue is Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). “It has been discontinued.”

Trump's comment about a mob boss has left GOP New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli in the awkward position of having to defend his close ties to Trumpwhose brutal attempt to punish will kill millions of New Jerseyans desperate to end train delays.

During the gubernatorial debate earlier this month, Ciattarelli gave Trump's tenure an “A” grade, saying Trump “…he is right in everything he does

On Wednesday, however, he was forced to tuck his tail between his legs and take a stand against Dear Leader's destructive campaign of revenge.

“New Jersey needs a governor who has the authority to work with the president and, if necessary, disagree with him, and who will advocate for New Jersey's fair share of federal taxes, including the Gateway Tunnel,” Ciattarelli wrote in a post on X. “This is a critical infrastructure project and I will fight to see it through.”

Of course, the argument that New Jersey needs a Republican governor to keep Trump from punishing state residents is unlikely to resonate in the Garden State, which voted for a Democrat for president in all elections since 1992.

Ciattarelli will have to convince Democratic voters to support his proposal to secure victory.

“New Jersey is a blue state, and to win, Ciattarelli needs to win over a majority of Harris voters. He's not in that right now,” CNN polling analyst Harry Enten. wrote in a message on X.

Democrat Miki Sherrill

Arguing that the only way for the state to avoid punishment is to have a Republican work with Trump is not an argument that will sway hard-core Democrats.

Meanwhile, Rep. Mikie Sherrill, the Democratic candidate for New Jersey governor, is making the tunnel's apparent cancellation an issue in the race.

“Donald Trump is trying to stop funding the Gateway Tunnel, the most important infrastructure project in New Jersey and the country. I'm for Gateway. @Jack4NJ for Trump” – Cheryl wrote in a message on X.

Other Democrats support Sherrill.

“The Gateway Tunnel is not something we need to “advocate for.” Congress appropriated the money. There is a legally binding financing agreement. No president can legally “stop” it. And we don't have to elect a governor who the president politically owns to get it.” – Former New Jersey Rep. Tom Malinowski wrote in a post on X in response to Ciattarelli.

Amen.
