SZA Joins New Jersey Rapper MoRuf on New Song ‘PT Cruiser’

The two artists, who met in their home state over a decade ago, reminisce about MoRuff's latest track together.

Rapper and songwriter MoRuff's discography dates back to his 2011 debut album. State of mind in the garden: ready to livereleased around the same time he met one Solana Rowe. MoRuff, born Moruf Adedayo Adewunmi, and Rowe, a.k.a. SZAgrew up in a nearby New Jersey cities. As she reveals in an Instagram caption celebrating their latest collaboration on MoRuf's new single and music video “PT Cruiser,” their relationship was formative.

“Without our car freestyles, there would be no me in my mom’s driveway!” she wrote under a post containing a snippet of a music video directed by their friend Joshua Kissi. “You inspire me to be a more loving person every day. Anything for the big Moo!! Husband Reggie da NOVA and RAVI DADDY!! That's BLACK KANG right here!! Love you PT Cruiser gang NAOW #jerseyshit.”

The song itself is a soothing, nostalgic ode to youthful memories and young love, with both artists dancing between R&B and rap. It was produced by Jesse Boykins III, Nate Bajar, MeLo-X and Matt Cody. The soft, communal video captures his reflective mood, featuring footage of MoRuf, SZA and friends like a fellow artist. MoRuf responded to SZA's Instagram post sentimentally celebrating their musical reunion, writing: “So why you make a nigga cry on a Wednesday night? Day1 says A1. Springfield Avenue! They weren't there. You're one of the most real people I know. Thank you for creating and sharing this piece of art with me. This is bigger than us. This is for Jersey!!! #BigJersey.”
