In his future memoirs You thought you knewIn the Oct. 21 episode, Federline claims that Spears sometimes watched their sons sleep “with a knife in her hand.”
After Spears' 72-hour involuntary psychiatric stay at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 2008, which Federline describes in his book as “one of the hardest nights of my life,” he was given sole custody of Shawn and Jayden. Federline suggests in the book that the children had reasons to be afraid to remain with Spears, who was placed in protective custody after a psychiatric report. “Sometimes they would wake up at night and find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep: 'Oh, are you awake?' — with a knife in his hand,” he claims, according to the New York newspaper. In the penultimate chapter You thought you knewFederline says the #FreeBritney movement “started from a good place” but argues that Spears' long-term well-being is now at risk because professionals may be afraid of being criticized if they try to help her. “All those people who put so much effort into this should now put that same energy into the Save Britney movement,” he reportedly urged in his letter. “Because it's not about freedom anymore. It's about survival.” According to Federline's book, he feels like “the clock is ticking” before something bad happens to Spears. Noting that he was concerned his sons would have to face consequences, he urged fans to support Spears, Sean and Jaden. “Now more than ever, they need your support,” he writes. “I've been their buffer for years, but now he's bigger than me. It's time to sound the alarm.”
“Given the news that Kevin broke the book, he and others are cashing in on her again, and unfortunately this comes after Kevin stopped paying child support,” Spears' rep said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “All she cares about is her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensation. She detailed her journey in her book. memoirs” Spears stopped paying Federline child support last November, the same month Jayden turned 18, and as reported reunited with her; Federline denied this Entertainment tonight this money is “at the heart” of his book.
Spears also took to Twitter to discuss more personally what she called “gaslighting” by Federline. “I was always begging and screaming for a life with my boys,” she wrote. “Relationships with teenage boys are difficult. I felt demoralized by the situation and always asked and almost begged them to be a part of my life.” According to Spears, her relationship with her children deteriorated because they “witnessed the lack of respect for me from my own father.” She says one child has spent 45 minutes with her over the past 5 years, while another has only had 4 visits in that time. “Believe me, these white lies in this book go straight to the bank and I'm the only one who really got hurt here,” she wrote. “I'm actually a pretty smart woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life for the last 5 years. I'm talking about this because I've had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
