Publisher PlaySide and developer Fumi Games arrived at IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025 to unveil a behind-the-scenes gameplay trailer for the black-and-white boomer shooter. Mouse: PI for rent.
The minute-long video takes a behind-the-scenes look and shows fans how Fumi used hand-drawn visuals to create a stylized first-person shooter that looks like a cross between Cuphead, Doom, and old-school Disney cartoons. It features an updated look at Mouse: PI For Hire's many locations, characters and weapons, reminiscent of the 20s and 30s shows, ahead of a yet-to-be-announced 2025 release date for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | WITH.
“This is handcrafted entertainment full of love, made by real people for real people,” the Mouse: PI For Hire team says in the trailer.
Today's IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025 sneak peek is just a taste of what's to come. Fans can look forward to a deeper dive into the development of Mouse: PI For Hire when an in-depth presentation premieres during the next ID@Xbox presentation on Tuesday, October 28th at 10:00 am PT/1:00 pm ET. Meanwhile, this elusive release date will also be will finally be presented as part of the Galaxies Gaming Showcase will be released on October 23rd and can be viewed via IGN.
Fumi presented its attractive shooter short teaser trailer in 2023. Back then he was simply known as “Mouse”, and the full name “Mouse: PI For Hire” appeared only after its re-disclosure at the end of 2024. Since then, Fumi and PlaySide have added The Last of Us and Indiana Jones and the Big Circle Star. Troy Baker in the cast as rodent detective Jack Pepper, while players wait until next week for the PC and console release dates.
